Tres Leches Cake (Three Milk Cake)

Overview:

Tres Leches Cake is a sponge cake soaked in three types of milk: evaporated milk, condensed milk, and heavy cream. This rich and moist cake is topped with whipped cream and often garnished with fresh fruit.

Origin:
Latin America

Ingredients:

  • For the cake:
    • 1 cup all-purpose flour
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • 5 large eggs
    • 1 cup granulated sugar
    • 1/3 cup milk
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • For the milk mixture:
    • 1 cup evaporated milk
    • 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
    • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • For the topping:
    • 1 cup heavy cream
    • 1 tablespoon powdered sugar
    • Fresh fruit (optional) for garnish

How to Make It:

  1. Bake the Cake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan. Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. In a large bowl, beat the eggs and sugar until fluffy. Mix in milk and vanilla. Gradually add the flour mixture. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 25-30 minutes.
  2. Soak the Cake: Once the cake is baked and cooled, poke holes all over the surface with a fork. In a mixing bowl, combine evaporated milk, condensed milk, and heavy cream. Pour this mixture evenly over the cake, allowing it to soak in.
  3. Add the Topping: In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar until stiff peaks form. Spread the whipped cream over the soaked cake.
  4. Serve: Garnish with fresh fruit, such as berries or sliced peaches, and serve chilled.
