Tacos

Overview:

Tacos are a traditional Mexican dish consisting of small hand-sized tortillas topped with various fillings such as meat, beans, cheese, and vegetables. They are often garnished with salsa, guacamole, and fresh lime.

Origin:
Mexico

Ingredients:

  • 8 small corn or flour tortillas
  • 500g ground beef, chicken, or pork (or beans for a vegetarian option)
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup shredded cheese
  • Salsa, guacamole, and sour cream for topping
  • Fresh lime wedges for garnish

How to Make It:

  1. Cook the Meat: In a skillet, heat some oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, sautéing until soft. Add the ground meat and cook until browned. Stir in chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper. Cook until the meat is fully cooked and the spices are well incorporated. For vegetarian tacos, cook beans with the same spices.
  2. Warm the Tortillas: Heat the tortillas in a dry skillet or over an open flame until soft and pliable.
  3. Assemble the Tacos: Place a portion of the cooked meat or beans in the center of each tortilla. Top with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, and shredded cheese. Add salsa, guacamole, and sour cream if desired.
  4. Serve: Garnish with fresh lime wedges and serve the tacos immediately.
