Satay


Overview:

Satay is a Southeast Asian dish of skewered and grilled meat, served with a flavorful peanut sauce. It’s a popular street food in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand.

Ingredients:

  • 500g chicken or beef, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons peanut butter
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • Wooden skewers (soaked in water for 30 minutes)

For the Peanut Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1/2 cup coconut milk
  • 1 garlic clove, minced


How to Make It:

  1. Marinate the Meat: In a bowl, mix soy sauce, honey, peanut butter, lime juice, garlic, turmeric, and cumin. Add the meat and marinate for at least 1 hour.
  2. Prepare the Peanut Sauce: Combine peanut butter, soy sauce, lime juice, honey, coconut milk, and garlic in a saucepan. Cook over low heat until smooth and well combined.
  3. Skewer and Grill: Thread the marinated meat onto skewers. Grill the satay over medium heat for 5-7 minutes on each side, until fully cooked.
  4. Serve: Serve the satay with peanut sauce and a side of cucumber salad or rice.
