Overview:
Doner Kebab is a Turkish dish made of meat cooked on a vertical rotisserie, typically lamb, beef, or chicken, sliced thinly and served in flatbread or pita with vegetables and sauces.
Origin:
Turkey
Ingredients:
- For the meat:
- 500g boneless lamb or chicken, thinly sliced
- 3 tablespoons plain yogurt
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon ground paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- For serving:
- Pita bread or flatbread
- Sliced tomatoes, onions, and cucumbers
- Lettuce leaves
- Tzatziki sauce or garlic sauce
How to Make It:
- Marinate the Meat: In a bowl, mix yogurt, olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, and spices. Add the thinly sliced meat and mix well to coat. Let it marinate for at least 2 hours or overnight for best results.
- Cook the Meat: Preheat a grill or skillet to medium-high heat. Cook the marinated meat until fully cooked and slightly charred, turning as needed, about 6-8 minutes per side. Slice into thin strips.
- Assemble the Doner Kebab: Warm the pita or flatbread. Layer the cooked meat in the center, add sliced tomatoes, onions, cucumbers, and lettuce. Drizzle with tzatziki or garlic sauce.
- Serve: Roll up the flatbread around the filling and serve hot.
