Doner Kebab

Overview:
Doner Kebab is a Turkish dish made of meat cooked on a vertical rotisserie, typically lamb, beef, or chicken, sliced thinly and served in flatbread or pita with vegetables and sauces.

Origin:
Turkey

Ingredients:

  • For the meat:
    • 500g boneless lamb or chicken, thinly sliced
    • 3 tablespoons plain yogurt
    • 2 tablespoons olive oil
    • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
    • 2 garlic cloves, minced
    • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
    • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
    • 1 teaspoon ground paprika
    • Salt and pepper to taste
  • For serving:
    • Pita bread or flatbread
    • Sliced tomatoes, onions, and cucumbers
    • Lettuce leaves
    • Tzatziki sauce or garlic sauce

How to Make It:

  1. Marinate the Meat: In a bowl, mix yogurt, olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, and spices. Add the thinly sliced meat and mix well to coat. Let it marinate for at least 2 hours or overnight for best results.
  2. Cook the Meat: Preheat a grill or skillet to medium-high heat. Cook the marinated meat until fully cooked and slightly charred, turning as needed, about 6-8 minutes per side. Slice into thin strips.
  3. Assemble the Doner Kebab: Warm the pita or flatbread. Layer the cooked meat in the center, add sliced tomatoes, onions, cucumbers, and lettuce. Drizzle with tzatziki or garlic sauce.
  4. Serve: Roll up the flatbread around the filling and serve hot.
