Corn Dog

Overview:

A corn dog is a skewered hot dog coated in a thick layer of cornmeal batter, then deep-fried until golden brown. It’s a popular American snack often found at fairs and carnivals.

Origin:
United States

Ingredients:

  • 6 hot dogs
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • Skewers
  • Oil for frying
  • Ketchup and mustard for serving

How to Make It:

  1. Prepare the Batter: In a mixing bowl, combine cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Whisk in milk and egg until smooth.
  2. Skewer the Hot Dogs: Insert skewers into the hot dogs, leaving enough skewer sticking out for a handle.
  3. Dip and Fry: Dip each hot dog into the batter, coating it evenly. Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy pan to 350°F (175°C). Fry the corn dogs until golden brown, about 3-5 minutes.
  4. Serve: Drain on paper towels and serve hot with ketchup and mustard.
